Get Involved

We work with 170 outstanding volunteers on a weekly basis who donate their time, energy and mileage to ensure that we can fulfill our mission. It is an amazing community of people dedicated to helping those in need.

Volunteer Opportunities

Our operating hours are 7 AM to 1:30 PM, Monday through Friday. You can opt to have a regular shift on a weekly basis or volunteer as a substitute and fill in occasionally as your schedule allows. Both regular and substitute volunteers are highly valued!

  • Drivers deliver meals between 11AM-12:30PM.

  • Volunteer Ambassadors represent CCMOW at various fairs, festivals and farmers markets year-round but primarily during the warm months.

  • Kitchen helpers prepare, serve, and clean up in either an early shift or a later shift between the hours of 7AM-1: 30 PM.

  • Baggers help organize daily meals before deliveries, between 8:30AM-11: 30 PM.

  • Administrative assistants help with logistics and volunteer coordination between 9AM-12PM.

  • Special projects during holidays and fundraisers are lots of fun, and we can always use a hand. These are seasonal and very flexible with timing.

Children

We are often asked if children can participate in volunteer work. Parents and grandparents who deliver meals are welcome to bring their kids or grandkids, regardless of age. Delivery drivers must be 21. Kitchen helpers must be 18, although teens 16 to 17 years old may volunteer if a parent is present. There may be other ways for children to become involved off-site, such as making cards or holiday favors for clients. Give us a call if you are interested.

Community Service Volunteers

Coal Creek Meals on Wheels (CCMOW) is a great place to give back to your community and complete your school, church, court-ordered, or another type of community service hours.

Community service volunteers (CSVs) work in our kitchen, which is open Monday-Friday, 7:30 AM to 1:30 PM at 455 N. Burlington Avenue in Lafayette. CSVs may work the whole schedule or part of it, depending on other obligations. Schedules will be agreed upon between you and your supervisor.

We are grateful for the many hours CSVs have contributed to CCMOW. We have a very small staff and rely heavily on all of our volunteers. CSVs are expected to be present for a shift if they have agreed to it. If you do not show up and do not call, you may lose the opportunity to finish your hours here. We count on you!

Due to the nature of our work, you must be 18 or older to complete your community service hours at CCMOW.

Volunteers are required to wear closed-toe shoes and long or capri-length pants. Clothing must be clean and appropriate. Our kitchen supplies aprons and gloves.

Contact our Volunteer Coordinator, Elaine Scanlon, with any questions pertaining to community service volunteerism at escanlon@coalcreekmow.org.

Thanks again for considering CCMOW for your community service.

Please note that we are not currently accepting community service volunteers at this time. We will add an application button once this opportunity is reopen. Please check back at a later.
