Each March, communities across the country come together to celebrate March for Meals, a national campaign aligned with the anniversary of the Older Americans Act Nutrition Program. This campaign raises awareness and inspires action to support local Meals on Wheels providers through volunteering, donations, and advocacy—ensuring that no neighbor is left behind.
While many Meals on Wheels programs receive federal funding through the Older Americans Act (OAA), Coal Creek Meals on Wheels operates differently. We do not receive OAA funding. Instead, we rely on the generosity of our community to continue serving anyone in need—without restrictions or requirements related to age, income, or circumstance.
A Community-Wide Commitment
This year, the City of Lafayette, the City of Louisville, the Town of Erie, and the Town of Superior have all officially proclaimed March as the 24th annual March for Meals. These proclamations recognize not only the national impact of Meals on Wheels, but also the deep, local impact of our work right here in our community.
For over 50 years, Coal Creek Meals on Wheels has served our neighbors across Erie, Lafayette, Louisville, and Superior. In 2025 alone, we delivered more than 77,000 meals—but our work goes far beyond food. For hundreds of individuals experiencing food insecurity in our community, daily connections made by our volunteers often are more meaningful than the food they bring.
Why it Matters This Year
Rising food prices and changes to other supportive programs like SNAP mean that more of our neighbors are stretching budgets. Many households are having to make choices between food and other essentials. Coal Creek Meals on Wheels is able to meet people in these moments, but only because of the support we receive from our community.
How to Take Action
March for Meals is a celebration of compassion, connection, and community. It's also a Call to Action.
Advocate: Support food assistance programs at the federal, state, and local levels. Let policymakers know that nutrition services are essential for community health and wellbeing.
Donate: Give to Coal Creek Meals on Wheels or other organizations working to fight food insecurity. Every dollar helps provide meals, connection, and care.
Volunteer: Share your time by delivering meals or supporting food security efforts in your community. Even a small commitment can have a meaningful impact.
By coming together, we can ensure that every neighbor—no matter their situation—has access to nutritious food and the human connection that makes all the difference.
